Description	The National Climate Predictions and Projections Platform is planning a workshop in 2013 that will evaluate different downscaling methods for climate model data. It will leverage the infrastructure developed under the Curator project, which was used both for a 2008 workshop on the comparison of atmospheric model dynamical cores and the 5th Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5).

La Niña Pilot

Description

The National Climate Prediction and Projection Platform is conducting a Missouri River Basin La Niña Pilot Project to provide climate information at regional scale for the Missouri Basin. The climate information will include outlooks for two weeks to several seasons and possibly beyond. The information is intended to inform planning and decision-making by federal agencies, tribes, state and local governments, businesses and other organizations with interests in the basin.

Climate Indices for Impacts Assessment

Description

This is a technical pilot designed to explore the connection between NCPP, the USGS GeoData Portal, and data collections at the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) and other sites. This pilot will utilize services provided by USGS in order to deliver climate indices with additional translational information. It emphasizes the role of standards in creating a national and international capability to deliver local and regional climate information that may derive from many sources and services.

North Central Climate Science Project

Description

This joint pilot project is an applications activity with the overarching goal to collaboratively explore the “best available climate information” to support key land management questions and how to provide this information. Our pilot will develop a deliberate, ongoing interaction to prototype how NCPP will work with CSCs to develop and deliver needed climate information products. In addition, this pilot will build capacity in the North Central CSC by working with NCPP to use climate information used as input to ecological modeling and will work with NCPP to develop translational information for climate data.

Description	ES-DOC-Models is a joint international effort to develop metadata services for a set of climate modeling and related projects. This project is the evolution of the Metafor project and Earth System Curator project. Development focuses on the Common Information Model (CIM), a schema for describing Earth System Models.

Downscaling Metadata

Description

This project will develop a standard set of descriptive terms for downscaling that is consistent with community standards. It will use the Common Information Model (CIM) as its metadata schema, and will create a new Controlled Vocabulary for downscaling. This vocabulary will be used by NCPP's Downscaling 2013 Workshop to populate a database of standardized descrptions and evaluations of downscaling methods as well datasets generated using those methods. This will allow practitioners who use climate data at local and regional scales to make better judgements about which climate projection data to use.
