Release Release Notes Known Bugs

CoG 1.9

11/19/13

Key features of this release include:

  • Project administrators can now enable or disable the Data Search widget via the Update Project interface.
  • Project administrators can now choose a different layout for the Home page (via the Update Project interface), which does not include the left menus. This creates the ability for projects to have a more "splash-like" home page. 
  • The News and Project Browser widgets have been improved to be more functional and look more consistent.
  • Several minor cosmetic enhancements and bug fixes.

Known bugs fixed in this release:

  • Long project titles obscure the main horizontal navigation bar when they wrap.

Known bugs carried over:

  • Wiki tables of a certain size cause the "Last Updated" text to be rendered to the side of the table and not underneath it.
  • The 3rd party software CIM Model Metadata Viewer (version 0.8.7.1) does not work with Internet Explorer 0.8 and lower.
  • The 3rd party software Live Access Server used for data visualization has the following issues:
    • Can't visualize data on a frequency greater than one day.
    • The color scheme is saturating and therefore not correctly capturing the minimum and maximum of the data.
    • The vertical axis may display incorrectly, even with metadata present.

CoG 1.8

Key features of this release include:

  • A considerable expansion of the project-level metadata, and the ability for project administrators to selectively display that information depending on their needs.
  • A complete refactoring of the upper navigational bar, with many more tabs and sub-tabs pointing to the new metadata pages (if enabled by the project administrators)
  • A default structure of folders to store common Resources, including folders for Presentations, Publications, Newsletters, etc.
  • Improvements to the Advanced Search functionality, including custom descriptive text, and a more functional pagination of results.

Known bugs fixed in this release: none

Known bugs carried over:

CoG 1.7

9/4/13

The main feature of this release is to introduce support for sharing CoG pages to the social media sites: Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

Other features of this release include:
  • Renaming of project "Bookmarks" to "Resources" in select locations.
  • Better handling of external site dependencies, which means faster loading of all pages.
  • Updated footer recognizing the U.S.. Department of Energy as a CoG partner.
  • Turning on all right-side widgets for templated pages, which makes the CoG services more visible. 

Known bugs fixed in this release:

  • Long URLs in the governance templates can cause the entire governance section to be drawn under the right side widgets.

Known bugs carried over:

CoG 1.6

The purpose of this release is to provide operational support for the data and metadata needs of the upcoming workshop "Quantitative Evaluation of Downscaling" (QED-2013), organized by the National Climate Projections and Predictions (NCPP) project. Changes in this release include:

  • Ability to group the project search facets into sets of related elements
  • Ability to customize a project search by selectively displaying modeling metadata
  • Support for transfer of workshop products from NCAR to NOAA, and publication into the CoG system
  • Several improvements in listing of project users, sponsors and partners

Known bugs fixed in this release:

  • Alphabetization of names in the people listing is not case sensitive nor does it correctly deal with first names.

Known bugs carried over:

CoG 1.5

The purpose of this release is to provide operational support for the data and metadata needs of the upcoming workshop "Quantitative Evaluation of Downscaling" (QED-2013), organized by the National Climate Projections and Predictions (NCPP) project. Changes in this release include:

  • Publishing of QED-2013 products according to their pre-defined directory structure, including metadata harvested from several sources.
  • Searching of QED-2013 products according to the workshop specific facets.
  • Enhanced formatting capabilities of most text fields throughout the site (new lines and hyperlinked URLs).
  • Minor changes in fonts, sizes and colors.

Known bugs fixed in this release:

  • The top navigation bar formatting is effected when all upper links are turned on.

CoG 1.4

  • Each Project can now have more than one parent Project. 
  • The "peer" relationship among Projects is not symmetrical any more(if project A defines project B to be a peer, project B does nor necessarily have project A has a peer).
  • The Project Browser widget has been completely redesigned to make it more user friendly and to better define parent, peer, and child project relationships. 
  • A Project can be associated with tags that further define it (for example, "Climate", "Governance", "Downscaling", etc...).  These tags can be used to search for projects in the redesigned Project Browser.
  • The widget to send News to Projects has also been completely redesigned to be more functional.

Known bugs fixed in this release:

  • Lists of projects in the "This" portion of the Project Browser are not alphabetized.
  • Long project short names don't wrap well in the Project Browser.

New known bugs:

  • Expanded user profiles, which now include the ability for a user to upload a personal photo, list professional interests(in the form of keywords and/or a brief paragraph), and insert external URLs for personal home page or blog.
  • New listing of project sponsors and partners, including logos
  • New listing of project participants, including full members and collaborators
  • Updated CoG splash page
  • New (optional) metadata to describe a project's development
  • More automatic selection of menu and sub-menu pages when a project administrator is configuring the project tabs
  • New integrated metadata + image display to support upcoming NCPP workshop
  • General improvements for the site look and feel

Known bugs fixed in this release:

  • The headers for peer and child project roll-ups for the main governance page exist even when there is no roll-up information.

Known bugs carried over:

  • Long URLs in the governance templates can cause the entire governance section to be drawn under the right side widgets.
  • Lists of projects in the "This" portion of the Project Browser are not alphabetized.

CoG 1.2

  • The main purpose of this release is to build incremental support for a Summer 2013 workshop on climate data downscaling. Specifically, the release includes prototype publishing and searching functionality for the data products expected from the workshop. These changes will not be evident to most CoG users.
  • A few minor user interface changes.

Know bugs fixed in this release:

  • File descriptions can't be updated once loaded.

New known bugs:

  • The headers for peer and child project roll-ups for the main governance page exist even when there is no roll-up information.
  • Long URLs in the governance templates can cause the entire governance section to be drawn under the right side widgets.

Known bugs carried over:

  • Lists of projects in the "This" portion of the Project Browser are not alphabetized.
  • Long project titles obscure the main horizontal navigation bar when they wrap.
  • Long project short names don't wrap well in the Project Browser.

CoG 1.1

  • Provide a permanent landing page (http://www.earthsystemcog.org/) that contains a high-level overview of the CoG functionality, together with links to more in-depth descriptions.
  • Improvement of the user documentation overall.
  • New CoG logo.
  • More prominent and improved user support page.

Know bugs fixed in this release:

  • Entries may be listed in the wrong temporal order in the Activity Log.
  • Projects can be peers of themselves.
  • Projects can select themselves as parents or select one of their children as their parent.

New known bugs:
