Search Example Frost Days

Example:  The average number of anual frost days in the IPSL model downscaled using the BCCA method.

Click the Reset button to clear your previous selections, if needed.

Select the following:

  1. Time interval: annual
  2. Metric:  mean
  3. Variable/Index:  fd (number of Frost days)
  4. Evaluation data: bcca ipsl cm4 (the IPSL CM4 GCM downscaled using the BCCA method

This will limit your choices to two datasets that are listed in the center of the page.

Click on "Show Files" for one of the search results, and you will see a thumbnail picture for that result, as well as a link to Download the data contained in the graphic.

Click on the thumbnail image. We recommend opening the image in a new tab or window so that you can easily proceed to other search results.

The one labeled "eval" gives   the number of annual frost days for the  downscaled data,

The one labeled "comp" gives the difference between the downscaled dataset and the number of frost days in the gridded  observational  dataset.


From this plot you see that the downscaled data has fewer annual frost days than the Maurer observed datasets over most of the Great Plains by 5 to 10 days, and more frost days in the interior West.  Comparing to the above plot you can assess whether this discrepancy is a significant effect for your area.
